DIGITAL LITERACY NOT APPLICABLE TO EVERYONE

The impact digital illiteracy to many in this time and age is massive. People at different levels, states, societies or even race or gender experience this. Even for the fact that they are very few individuals who have this knowledge and still haven’t fully come to the maximum understanding the digital literacy. Digital illiteracy has eaten deep into the system. Making it increasingly unaccessible despite the large numbers of organisations being established on a daily bases, for the eradiction of digital illiteracy.

In a generation where vast information is very important. Creativeness and craziness is the order of the living. The ability to be able to access information at your comfort zone is a lifestyle for those who know how to appropriately use it well. But ironically, many still don’t know how to make use of their android or IOS devices. They basically think as long as it can serve the supposed major functions of making calls, sending messages, sending chats or receiving videos as expected for a touch screen phone then it can serve its purpose. Therefore, the creation of this devices are beyond the listed. But, very few knows this and can relate to them.

Digital illiteracy doesn’t mean that when a person cant handle some digital devices then he should be regarded as an illiterate. Its way beyond this. Digital illiteracy starts when a person doesn’t know the value or the existence of things related to the global digital world. Technology has been made available to everyone to make use of and recreate in many folds and medium. Not knowing how to access and properly use these opportunities is what is regarded as illiteracy. According to research, reviews and thoughts, digital illiteracy is of 3 kinds of levels of digital illiteracy, they include; lowest level, to some extent level, advanced level. All these levels generally breakdown digital literacy not applicable to everyone.

The first stage which is the lowest level occurs when a person has zero or no knowledge about technology and being digital. This set of people are those who cant make of devices or information as regards technology despite them having access to them or some not having access to them. Looking at the case of not having access to this information, those set of people cant make use of these devices as a result of lack of awareness and enlightenment, educational background, poor access to technology, poor access to mentors or persons who can educate more on being digital, local environment or rural area. These and many more are the issues affecting those who fall into the category of the first stage. Moving over to the second stage. They are the set of people who have more knowledge of being a digital literate than those in the first stage. These kind of people can make use of some information flawlessly and can apply some to their day to day lives. They are the ones who can explain some minor parts of technology. They can also use some digital tools and devices to their daily lifestyle. They understand the basics of technology but not the deeper parts of technology.

This leads us to the third stage of digital illiteracy which is the advanced illiteracy. They are the set of who are much vast in technology than those in the second and first. They can be regarded publicly as experts in their fields to some extent, but inwardly they regard themselves as not being close to the goal of being an expert. Truthfully, they havent gotten to this level yet making them digital illiterates. With this knowledge, it has cause a lot of people like me to ensure the wild spread of digital awareness to many people around us.

The point of having more people in tech to revolve with the changing and advanced introduction of artificial intelligence[AI]. The high need of more people to be digitally knowledgeable has made many startups and non-profit organizations to continuously create awareness and enlightenment for people who want to know more and apply these information to their daily lives. This will help to eradicate digital illiteracy.
